Mission and History

The Fondation Santé Baie-des-Chaleurs has been supporting local healthcare for 35 years, funding projects essential to improving care in our region.

The Mission

For over 35 years, the Fondation Santé Baie-des-Chaleurs has played a key role in the philanthropic landscape of the Gaspé Peninsula, helping to fund projects to develop health and social services in the Baie-des-Chaleurs region. These projects are driven by the noble goal of improving the health and well-being of the population, while encouraging community participation.

The history

Established by a small group of passionate volunteers in 1989, the Foundation now occupies a prominent place in the Gaspé philanthropic landscape. Thanks to investments of nearly $4 million in medical equipment, first at the Hôpital de Maria and, since 2006, in all the facilities that now form the Baie-des-Chaleurs Local Services Network of the CISSS de la Gaspésie, the Foundation has contributed to improving services, but also to their development by promoting the recruitment of specialists.

The population benefits directly from the new services made available thanks to the Foundation's investments. With travel to other facilities significantly reduced, patients can be treated at home, surrounded by their loved ones. This situation has a positive impact on their physical condition, on the financial situation of their family as well as on the medical staff, who are less often called upon to accompany patients during their travels, which leads to a reduction in costs for the facility.

Finally, the new specialties established in Baie-des-Chaleurs allow the creation of quality jobs and, often, the arrival of new families contributing to our community on the economic and social level.
